About Us
We come from Mogok, a legendary gem valley in Myanmar known for producing the world’s most extraordinary rubies - nearly 95% of the finest rubies originate there. Our great-great-grandfather, U Hmat - known as the Ruby King - served as chief ruby miner to King Thibaw, the last king of Burma, and our family once owned ruby mines in Mogok, building generations of life around the land, the stones, and the craft.
When Myanmar was nationalized, everything changed. The mines and the livelihoods tied to them were taken. With dignity and resolve, our grandparents gathered what jewelry and savings they could and left Mogok behind, rebuilding their lives in Yangon while preserving their pride, resilience, and deep connection to the gem trade.
Through an arranged marriage, our family later became connected to the royal lineage itself, quietly uniting the Ruby King’s legacy with the dynasty he once served.
My father was one of seven siblings raised in a household shaped by both loss and enduring tradition. One of my aunts remained in the jewelry world and became my mother’s first teacher. My mother mastered the craft in her own right, eventually working as a jeweler in New York’s Diamond District, where her expertise, discipline, and eye for excellence set her apart.
Today, she remains the heart of Jewel Creations NY. The legacy of Mogok -of resilience, artistry, and respect for rare beauty - continues to guide everything we create.
Our family’s story begins in Mogok, Myanmar, the legendary land of rubies. U Hmat served as chief ruby miner to King Thibaw, the last imperial ruler of Burma.
Generations later, through an arranged marriage, two branches of history quietly reunited - linking the Ruby King’s lineage with the royal family itself - carrying forward a shared reverence for craftsmanship, stewardship, and rare beauty
Family legend tells that after witnessing a night of falling meteors, U Hmat followed their path to a valley rich with gemstones.
Generations later, through an arranged marriage, the Ruby King’s descendants became connected to the royal lineage - uniting heritage, craftsmanship, and family.
